Sonia Nakad

Sonia Nakad, a peacebuilding and conflict resolution specialist

Nakad is a specialist in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, mediation, and arms control with extensive experience in both academic and operational settings. She currently works as a consultant, trainer, and instructor, and has served as a lecturer at the Lebanese American University since 2018.

She began her career as a peacebuilder and conflict resolution practitioner, working with national and international organizations across Lebanon and the MENA region. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with organizations including Oxfam, International Alert, Berghof Foundation, Caritas, and several United Nations agencies, including UNDP, UN Women, and UNRWA. As a trainer and consultant, she has designed and delivered programmes on conflict resolution, mediation, and peacebuilding, while supporting stakeholders in resolving disputes and strengthening dialogue.

Nakad has also played an active role in the negotiations of the Arms Trade Treaty at the United Nations and the League of Arab States, and continues to advocate for arms control and policy reform through her engagement with international organizations.

She holds a PhD in Political Science from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. She also holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from the Lebanese University and Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas, a Master’s degree in Negotiations and Diplomacy from Université La Sagesse and Université Paris-Sud, a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the Lebanese University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Musicology from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik.
